A tropical getaway in our own backyard?! Yes please! An escape from the day to day redundancy… yep! A tropical oasis of Hawaiian design and beauty? Definitely.
I was thrilled to be able to stay at the Catamaran Resort and Spa with my daughter. It was a nice little “girls getaway” for both of us. Time to connect with each other outside and away from school and other family members.
We both LOVED the ambiance and theme of the resort. Lush, tropical landscaping, gorgeous birds and beautiful views make up the Catamaran Resort and Spa.
When we arrived, we checked in with ease. We requested early check in- and as requested, we received. We walked through the lush grounds of the Catamaran to our second floor bay view room. Along the way, passing baby ducks, gorgeous koi fish, parrots and more. We entered the room and it was perfect for a family! Two separate living areas complete with sofa, two tv’s, two queen beds in the bedroom, refrigerator, a nice wetbar, and finally a balcony with lounge chairs. I requested a crib thinking I would have the little one with us, but we ended up not having her along. The crib was set up nicely right to the side in the living room of the resort room.
The room was clean and decorated nicely. Not too much foo foo stuff– perfect for little ones with grabby hands! The view from our room was spectacular! A gorgeous view of the bay and the dock for the Bahia Belle.
We wined and dined at the hotels restaurant, The Atoll, for lunch and breakfast the next day. Delicious food, gorgeous view, nice wait staff. Couldn’t be better!
For lunch I munched on an Ahi Salad appetizer. Spicy with wasabi, yet oh so delicious!
For breakfast my daughter picked from the adults menu (she loves her oatmeal), but I was so pleasantly surprised at the prices and variety that the children’s menu offered. All for $5 bucks! Cannot beat the price of $5 dollars for feeding kids on vacation!
During the summer months, Luaus are held every Friday evening from June 28th to August 30th, and Tuesday evenings from July 23rd to August 20th. A time to share traditional Polynesian foods, enjoy songs and dances of the Polynesian Islands and to give thanks to our family, friends, and guests from other lands and cultures. The Pride of Polynesia provides a great show with traditional dances from across the South Pacific.
Luau package includes: a lei, Mai Tai drink, sumptuous buffet and hours of Polynesian entertainment! Adults are $49.00, children are $22, and kids under 5 are free. If this was on during our stay, it would have been a sure visit for us!
The pool at the resort was very nice. Cool cabana chairs to keep you from the sun if you like or nice lounge chairs to sun bathe. The pool was large and perfect for kids. Not too deep, but just enough. The only down fall to the pool was that there is no life guard on duty– so watch those kiddos mamas!
I really wanted to check out the spa, but unfortunately my daughter was bit young. Not a problem though– next time! They have some great deals to be had each month. I totally want the “Mom of the Year” special! lol
One perk to being a guest at the hotel is the proximity to everything Pacific Beach–And that includes the Bahia Belle! It’s a fantastic ride on a turn of the century Mississippi style sternwheeler that moves between the Catamaran Resort and Spa to the Bahia. The Bahia Belle features live music and DJ’s, cocktails and dancing! We went on the Bahia Belle during family hours. It was nice to have a PG ride. The adults for the nightlife came on board at 9pm just as we were getting off.
